As you may know, I've been going through "stuff" for a bit in my life, nothing I care to declare as publicly as here. Recently, I was sent the following video. This man's LIFE--the true living in freedom everyday which comes from Jesus--is astounding. I have been blessed and have watched and listened to his videos a lot. Be encouraged with me....here are a couple of links. If nothing else, listen to the first 2 minutes of the first link--and be inspired!
March at a Glance: Photos
This month's photos are late, as you can tell, and I am just glad to get them up. March and April this year are proving to be the most difficult and dark for me in my life (yes, tougher than the transition to Alabama in 2006). Some day I may be able to write about it, but not now. Also, there are a few photos I have yet to receive: Easter and a wonderful hike I took the last weekend of March. Look for them to be incorporated in April's photos, instead.
Enjoy! And, for those of you reading this post in the Spring of 2008, please say a prayer for me and my family. And always remember: God is good. It matters not what we see, for we walk by faith, not by sight...God is good.
Men's Retreat, Church of the Highlands
An unexpected snow at the men's retreat, this trail captures my heart during this time. Is Spring really at hand? Or is the path still lonely and stark? Am I on the right trail?
There were probably about 150 men or so at the retreat. There is nothing exciting about this picture, I just though it cool to remember how many men were willing to take time out of their schedules to come and grow in Jesus Christ.
While I was at home, the snow hit Birmingham, too. Here my son Daniel has made a snowman. And, if you haven't figured it out by looking at the picture, snow in Alabama usually lasts about three hours (except the 500-year storm of 1993).
Easter Egg Hunt at Carmichael Place
Carmichael Place is the name of the home on some of the land where my Carmichael ancestors lived. Mira Carmichael, who lived there with two of her sisters, died in 2005, just a few months before her 107th birthday--lucid until the very end. Now, a tradition that started while I was in California, is an annual Easter Egg hunt just before Easter. With Easter this year coming the earliest it will for the next 200 or so years, it was was a cool time. (random factoid: Easter in the modern calendar is the first Sunday after the first full moon after the Spring equinox.)
Inside the parlor, my brother Beatty entertains the children with stories while the adults hide eggs.
The kids are lined up, getting ready...
Daniel and Gracie in the crowd, patiently waiting....
Go!!!!! The kids run to look for the eggs (easy to find in the front yard, hard to find ones in the back)
LC and Elizabeth, a bit bored, shot some pictures in the parlor later that day.
And, of course, finding someone's glasses, started clowning around. Here, Elizabeth tries the John Lennon look (Lauren Claire did a similar thing here). Oh, and in case you were wondering, those are antique brooms on the wall behind her head, part of the museum my mom made of the home.
This picture Elizabeth took of the parlor catches the feel of the old home.
Elizabeth discovered something she likes almost as much as riding horses: riding the mo-ped (pedal-pedal-pedal give-it-gas)
Birmingham Botanical Gardens
Birmingham has a beautiful botanical garden. We took a walk there as a family...
Me with my wonderful ladies; picture taken by the little fellow below.
Doesn't Daniel always look cute at his age?
Well, all the kids look cute at whatever age they are!
Elizabeth in a neat little garden.
Elizabeth found the spot where, 8 years previously, she had stood for a photo that became her five-year-old portrait.
A picture of the portrait--my how she's grown!
Lauren Claire
Some pictures of Lauren Claire's friends, and some of her birthday...
LC & Gwen
LC & Hannah--one of the last photo's with LC's braces!
LC turned 15 on the 30th...
Pretty presents...
And a very, very lovely birthday girl!
Well, that's it! Look for more pictures next month!
